Age 1-3/Toddlerhood

1 yr - age 3 / toddler and nursery kids learn to try to do physical things on their own, as their gross motor skills are getting developed. They learn by listening a lot as this is the time when their speech is also getting developed. They learn from play which they enjoy as a means to explore their world.Children of this age are natural scientists.

Physical play is most important form of learning this age as It is the time to develop his gross motor skills , body balance , hands and leg muscles ( not fingers for writing) , life skills , communicate his desires / fears / emotions , discover his own liking or innate trait / talents in fields like music / dancing/ painting , reading , speaking, sports , numbers , nature . It is also the time to build vision , immunity , food habits , logical thinking , impulse control , community skills with other kids, like conflict resolution , pooling effort , helping and teaching and basic personal safety etc.

At this age the child cannot explicitly voice his interest area. They simply get engaged to the concepts and plays that draw their attention. Their energy levels are extremely high and their control over their own emotions is very less.So it is upon the caregiver adults to understand what engages the child the most and accordingly should channel his or her energy and built his capabilities through play, storytelling ,drama , nature walks , social interactions etc. It has to be a conscious effort of his parent to engage him in various play activities and impart him experiential learning in playway methods.

This is the age of pure homeschooling through supervision and monitoring of the child’s own play.Adults need to give wide range of exposure to kids through reading, storytelling, drama , roleplays , singing , dancing, music , play activities in order to find their natural inclination, remove their stranger anxiety , settle them in presence of other children and in unfamiliar places.
